How money makes us fools and faith makes us wise
Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father, won’t You help me to see what I love and trust the most? Show me what my relationship with money is really like. I submit my financial life to You, asking You to be Lord and King over my heart and my finances. And help me not worry but to be wonderfully generous, just as I have experienced Your wonderful generosity to me. In Your Son’s precious name we pray. Amen!
Scripture
Matthew 6:19-34
Devotion
In many places around the world, including Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia etc., we have an insatiable desire and love for money. We allow it to take the place of God in our hearts and depend upon it for our security and to have control over our lives. However, Jesus reminds us that only God is truly in control and only in Him are we truly safe and secure. When we learn to truly treasure Jesus (vv19-24), He becomes the most wonderful and important part of our lives, so that we are able to have a healthy relationship with wealth, neither placing too much trust in it nor worrying about whether we have enough.
Ultimately the question Jesus asks us this: “Who is more trustworthy? Who is truly able to provide for you, to save you, and to bring you into eternal riches?” The One who went to the cross for you, or your bank account? Jesus uses the one thing that demands our attention to show us that He is infinitely more deserving of our love and our trust than anything else.
Intercessory Prayer
Oh Lord! How we thank You for our parents! It is through their love and sacrifice that we are now raised to be grown ups. It is through their teaching and guidance that we are not going astray. Heavenly Father! We seek that You remember their labors and that You will bless their relationship with You so that they may be saved by You and blessed with Your salvation. As they claim victory through our Lord Jesus, they can be empowered to stand firm. May the Lord protect their efforts so that their work will not be in vain. May the Lord bless our parents with good health, shield them against any injury and all kinds of attacks from satan. Pray that our parents be blessed to see their grandchildren seeking Your face and may Your grace be experienced from generation to generation. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen!
