Joy to the World does not mean the World Believes

The evil deeds of a wicked man ensnare him; the cords of his sin hold him fast. He will die for lack of discipline, led astray by his own great folly.

箴Proverbs 5:22-23

The foolish as referred to in the book of Proverbs refer to those who are ignorant. The foolish are those who have been led blindly by others and lost their faith. Fool also refers to stubborn atheists who would believe anything others say, couldn’t care less about religion and believes; do not critically distinguish nor give careful thought and would just go with the flow; would follow and worship anything that others worship ignorantly. They are those who would walk unknowingly along the path to death. Let us see what Psalms say about them:

For the director of music. Of David. The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.

诗Psalms 14:1

Fools often contradict themselves, they would say that there is no god but at the same time would believe anything that others say. They would easily and blindly believe and worship superstitiously but would reject stubbornly when facing the One True God and would stubbornly reject His existence.

How to break free from foolishness

Confess and Renounce our sins

He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

箴Proverbs 28:13

“Confess and repent” is the same as “Justification by Faith” which means: when a person bares their heart without hiding any of their transgressions in front of the Lord Jesus, God is faithful and just, He will forgive our past transgressions. Jesus Christ cleansed our unrighteousness with His precious blood, that all who believe in Him would receive grace and receive salvation. Hence, we are considered as “righteous” in front of God.

The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.

箴Proverbs 4: 18

Know His Authority

then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

箴Proverbs 2:5

Knowing God is the first step to building a relationship between men and God

The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.

箴Proverbs 21:1

All of men’s history is in the hands and control of God. We need to know that the God that we worship today does not only govern the universe and everything, God also drives the hearts of men.

Today’s Chinese Version Bible reads: “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.” In other words, the hearts and actions of the kings of earth are all within the control of God.

Know that God’s character is: Just, Loving; Punishes Evil and Rewards the Kind

If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?

箴Proverbs 24:12

Take note of the word “repay”

If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.

箴Proverbs 25:21-22

Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops;

箴Proverbs 3:9

“Honor the LORD” is also translated as “Glorify God” in other versions of the Bible. We should honor God with the things that God has blessed us with. While many find themselves unable to commit crimes in poverty, they would however fall to the temptations of the flesh, squander their wealth and indulge in gambling when they have gained some wealth. We need to know that the wealth that we have gained is not for us to enjoy alone but to use it for the furtherance of God’s work. We should all live to honor God.
