Take the Yoke of Jesus to Find Rest
Opening Prayer
Oh Heavenly Father, thank You for using Jesus to bring forth salvation, so that every one who believes in Christ can receive the fullness of life, for You have prepared Your yoke for us. I want to follow Your model in my labour. May the Holy Spirit grant me strength and direct my path to be Your witness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
Scripture
Matthew 11:1-30
Devotion
Many people were discussing if Jesus was the Messiah that the Israelites have been waiting for the longest time. They included John, who baptised Jesus in the river of Jordan and the Jews from the three villages of Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum that were located in Galilee. John has never witnessed Jesus performing miracles, but He believed that Jesus was the Messiah. Though the people from the three villages had personally experienced the teachings and assistance from Jesus, they refused to believe that Jesus was their Messiah.
Jesus prayed for these people, He pleaded for God to forgive their ignorance. The fact is, everyone who is willing to follow Jesus and be His disciple will receive peace. Jesus will instruct them on what they should do. The disciples just need to model after Jesus, then they will receive strength and guidance to accomplish the work that the Lord has entrusted upon them. In the process, they will also experience the wonderful presence of God. Today, when we are serving God, do we also feel helpless and have thoughts of giving up? By taking the yoke of Jesus upon us and armed with the power of the Holy Spirit, everything will become easier. This is because the burden given to us by the Lord is light, so that we can labour in strength and enjoy peace.
Intercessory Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You today with heavy hearts, burdened by the wars and hostilities that ravage our world. We lift up to You all those who suffer because of these conflicts—the innocent lives lost, the families torn apart, and the communities shattered by violence. We pray for peace to descend upon the lands that are marred by war. We ask for Your divine Intervention to touch the hearts of world leaders, guiding them towards paths of diplomacy, reconciliation, and understanding. Let Your wisdom prevail in the chambers of decision-making, remind us of Your Commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves, and let this love extend to all corners of the earth. Protect our soldiers, and may love and forgiveness replace hatred and revenge. Comfort those who suffer, strengthen those seeking justice, and heal the scars of war. In the Name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, we offer this prayer. May His example of love, sacrifice, and reconciliation inspire us all to work towards a world where swords are beaten into ploughshares, and where Your peace reigns supreme. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
