ONE in a Mission Day 17 A Bruised Reed

A Bruised Reed

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, even someone who is weak like me has been chosen by You and anointed with Your authority to do Your works and bear witness for You. I want to do the work that You have entrusted me, with all my heart. Let those who are weak become strong and be a testimony of Your light in this dark age. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Scripture

Matthew 12:1-21

Devotion

As Jesus is the Messiah, the Maker of heaven and earth and the Lord of the Sabbath day, we can model after Him by taking His yoke upon us to enjoy peace. However, at that time, there were many Jews who refused to accept this fact and were constantly challenging the teachings and actions of Jesus. These conflicts were most evident on Sabbath day. There were people who criticised that Jesus has broken the rules of Sabbath day by not stopping the disciples from plucking heads of grain to eat and for healing a man with a withered hand.

Why did Jesus do all these? Just as what the prophets said before, the mission of Jesus was not to bless mankind with riches and fame, but to bring justice throughout the earth. This is not achieved through competition and clamoring, but through using ordinary and helpless people to testify the power of the Gospel. Just as how a bruised weed will not break and a smoldering wick will not be quenched, Jesus did not only come for the Jews. He came to save both the Jews and the Gentiles. Everyone on earth should look to Christ.

Intercessory Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, we believe that You will continue to take care of us with Your love and truth, as well as to shower Your mercy and grace upon the campus. We pray that You will provide the school with all its needs, and grant all teachers and administrators a healthy body, a noble mind, and the motivation to press forward. Lord, please watch over us and have mercy on our weaknesses and transgressions. Here on campus, students are not the only ones who are weak; even as teachers, we also need Your mercy and grace. You command us to forgive and accept others, help us learn to forgive each other in the grace of forgiveness, and then work together in anticipation of the renewal of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. How we hope that our campus will become a place where Your name will be glorified. In the name of the Lord, Amen!
